Applications are now open for the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) Node Nigeria Internship Programme 2026.

This internship offers young professionals and recent graduates a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of civil society work while contributing to impactful initiatives that strengthen governance, advocacy, and citizen engagement in Nigeria.

As part of its ongoing effort to expand its footprint and better engage with civil society organisations (CSOs) across the country, WACSI established its Nigeria Node in Abuja in November 2022.

The Node serves as a key platform for building the capacity of Nigerian CSOs and promoting participatory governance, accountability, and social change.

About the Internship

WACSI is seeking a passionate and motivated intern who is eager to enhance their civic consciousness and develop practical professional experience in civil society operations, policy research, and advocacy.

The selected intern will work closely with the WACSI Node Nigeria team to support the planning, coordination, and execution of key institutional activities and programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct desktop research on relevant policy, legislative, and governance issues in Nigeria.
  • Assist in gathering information, drafting briefs, and writing reports for policy meetings and advocacy sessions.
  • Support planning and logistics for policy dialogues, stakeholder workshops, and capacity development events.
  • Contribute to the development of policy advocacy and training tools for CSOs.
  • Provide general administrative and communication support to the WACSI Node team.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the internship, applicants must:

  • Hold at least a first degree in International Affairs, Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Development Studies, or any related social science field.
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in civil society, non-profit management, and governance.
  • Possess strong communication, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and in a team environment.

Location & Duration

The successful candidate will be based at the WACSI Node Nigeria Office in Abuja for the duration of the internship.
