Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Program For Africans | Fully Funded

Applications are officially open for the 2026 Africa CDC / Kofi Annan Fellowship in Global Health Leadership Programme, a prestigious initiative designed to develop the next generation of transformative public health leaders across Africa.

The Fellowship supports high-potential public health professionals to acquire advanced leadership, strategic management, and systems-thinking skills needed to design, manage, and lead impactful public health programmes that strengthen health security and transform public health outcomes across the continent.

Selected Fellows will actively contribute to the implementation of Africa’s Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda and the New Public Health Order for Africa, while helping to shape resilient health systems and inspire future leaders.

Since its launch, the Fellowship has successfully graduated 84 Fellows from more than 34 African countries.

Alumni of the programme now lead transformative initiatives, author influential publications and books, build cross-border collaborations, and even serve at the highest levels of government, including as Ministers.

Who Should Apply

The Fellowship is open to senior public health professionals from African Union (AU) Member States with backgrounds in, but not limited to:

  • One Health
  • Human medicine
  • Sexual and reproductive health
  • Public mental health
  • Animal health
  • Health finance and policy
  • Epidemiology and related disciplines

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of an African Union Member State
  • Hold a postgraduate degree in a public health–related field
  • Have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience after completing a Master’s degree
  • Be in full-time employment within a public or private health institution
  • Demonstrate current or potential leadership capacity in public health

Selection Process

Fellow selection is conducted by an independent panel of experts drawn from the African Union Commission, Africa CDC, and global partners.

The process follows equal opportunity principles, ensuring strong representation of women and underrepresented groups.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online and include:

  • An employer support letter confirming full participation in the Fellowship
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A personal statement (maximum 400 words) outlining commitment to public health and leadership vision
  • A leadership challenge project proposal (maximum 400 words)

Incomplete applications or submissions sent via email will not be considered.
