Job Description

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria is seeking eligible and qualified candidates for the position of Economic Assistant within the Economic Section.

The successful candidate will conduct economic research, draft analytical reports and official cables, and maintain professional contacts with host government ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), international organisations, and private-sector stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include tracking Government of Nigeria priorities and progress toward U.S. Government (USG) policy objectives, coordinating with relevant USG agencies, delivering official demarches, and organising meetings and engagements for senior Embassy leadership, including the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM), and Economic Counselor.

The role also involves briefing Economic Section staff on portfolio-related issues, serving as a control officer for official visits, representing the Embassy at official functions, and participating in Embassy committees and working groups.

The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A minimum of two (2) years of university study is required

Experience

  • At least two (2) years of relevant work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Demonstrated experience in effective interpersonal engagement and communication

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong analytical, research, and drafting skills
  • Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office software suite

Language Requirement

  • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing) is required

Salary: USD $53,945 per year, paid biweekly
