How GSoC Works

  1. Students & Developers: Submit project ideas to participating open-source organizations.
  2. Organizations: Review proposals and select contributors for the summer program.
  3. Start Coding: Accepted applicants are paired with mentors and begin work on their projects.
  4. Submit: Complete and submit your project within the program period.

Eligibility Criteria for 2026

  • Must not reside in a U.S.-embargoed country
  • Age Requirement: 18 years or older at registration
  • Experience Level: Beginner in open-source development or a student
  • Participation Limit: Can only be accepted as a GSoC contributor once
  • Proposal Submissions: Up to 3 project proposals allowed, either to different organizations or multiple to the same organization
