Eligibility Criteria
The programme is designed for high-performing and motivated students who meet strong academic and professional standards.
Eligible applicants include:
- Students enrolled in full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programmes

Additional requirements:
- Nationals of Afreximbank member states
- Students of African descent in the diaspora
- Non-African students with a demonstrated commitment to Africa’s development
- Fluency in English or French, with a working knowledge of the other language
- Knowledge of Arabic or Portuguese is an added advantage
- Applicants must be between 20 and 32 years old at the time of application
Please note that children of Afreximbank staff are not eligible for the programme.
Internship Structure and Timing
The internship programme runs twice each year, starting in January and June, and typically lasts between three to six months.
Successful applicants will be required to:
- Relocate to their assigned duty station (primarily Cairo)
- Participate in a formal onboarding and induction process
- Work under the supervision of an assigned mentor
- Gain exposure through departmental rotations across the Bank’s value chain
At the end of the programme, interns must submit a detailed report outlining their learning experience and how they intend to apply their knowledge to support Africa’s development.

Application Process
Interested candidates are required to complete an online application and submit the following documents:

- A valid passport copy

- A recommendation letter from their institution
- A one-page statement of intent outlining expected learning outcomes
Successful candidates will receive a conditional offer and must confirm acceptance within two weeks. They are also required to provide proof of valid medical insurance and personal accident coverage before the internship begins.
Financial Support and Benefits
While interns are expected to cover some personal expenses, Afreximbank provides substantial support to ease their experience, including:
- Return airfare (economy class)
- Monthly tax-free stipend of USD 1,000
- Housing allowance of USD 500 for relocating interns
- One-week hotel accommodation upon arrival
- Airport transfers at the beginning and end of the programme
- Assistance with residence visa arrangements (where required)
This support structure allows interns to focus fully on their professional and personal development.
Terms and Conditions
Participants are expected to adhere to the programme’s guidelines, which include:
- Taking responsibility for personal expenses beyond provided support
- Being classified under the Bank’s Team Support grade structure
- No entitlement to employee benefits or future employment guarantees
- Participation limited to one internship per individual
- Full compliance with institutional policies and professional standards
Failure to meet these requirements may result in termination of the internship.
