About the Role

The British High Commission in Abuja is hiring a Residence Steward to support the smooth day-to-day operations of its official residence.

This role is focused on delivering high-quality hospitality, event support, and housekeeping services in a professional and high-profile diplomatic environment.

You will work closely with the Residence Manager, Chef, and support team to ensure that residents, guests, and official visitors experience exceptional service at all times.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide operational support for daily residence activities and official functions
  • Assist with coordination of events in the absence of the Residence Manager
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of residential entertainment areas
  • Ensure pantry, refrigerators, and storage areas are fully stocked at all times
  • Manage household inventory including china, glassware, cutlery, and silverware
  • Conduct regular stock checks and drinks inventory valuation
  • Inspect equipment daily and report faults or malfunctions promptly
  • Support environmentally responsible practices within residence operations
  • Liaise with the Chef on menus, food, and beverage requirements
  • Assist with table setting and food & beverage service during events
  • Arrange additional stewarding support when required
  • Set up and break down service areas for events (buffets, barbecues, formal dinners, etc.)

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2–3 years relevant work experience
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage service protocols
  • Experience or knowledge of food and wine pairing
  • Prior experience in:
    • Diplomatic environments
    • High-end hospitality
    • Event management or corporate service settings
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional, courteous, and discreet demeanor
  • Strong organizational and multitasking ability
  • High attention to detail

Desirable Skills
