African Union (AU) Internship Program 2024/25 for Young Africans

The African Union (AU) is a premier continental body committed to advancing Africa’s collective growth through enhanced integration, sustainable development, and fostering unity and cooperation across African states and their peoples.

Based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the AU also works towards building international partnerships to further these aims.

To boost its operational efficiency and fulfill its strategic goals, the African Union Commission is now accepting applications for its 2024/25 Internship Program from citizens of AU Member States.

Focus Areas

Interns under this program will lend support in various capacities across numerous departments, providing both administrative and technical assistance in areas like:

• Cabinet of the Chairperson
• Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment (ARBE)
• Economic Development, Trade, Industry, and Mining (ETIM)
• Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development (HHS)
• Women, Gender, and Youth (WGY)
• Political Affairs, Peace, and Security (PAPS)
• Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (ESTI)
• Infrastructure and Energy (IE)

This exposure allows interns to actively participate in AU’s strategic initiatives while gaining a deep understanding of its operational dynamics.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, candidates must:

• Be a national of an AU Member State.
• Currently be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program or already hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
• Be fluent in at least one AU official working language (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese), with additional language proficiency being a plus.
• Be under 32 years old at the time of selection.
• Exhibit high moral standards and integrity.
• Have no history of significant criminal convictions.

Note: No prior professional experience is necessary.

Terms and Conditions

• Interns are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and living costs.
• The AU will provide assistance for visa applications when possible.
• Internships are full-time commitments for three months, with the possibility of renewal for another three months.
• Interns must maintain personal health insurance coverage during the internship.

Required Skills

Applicants should demonstrate:

• Competence in using Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email.
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both spoken and written.
• Flexibility and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
• Fluency in one AU working language; additional language skills are beneficial.
