Applications are now open for the 2026 Archivi.ng Fellowship — a six-month immersive program designed for storytellers, researchers, and technologists working to make sense of Nigerian history through archival materials.
The Archivi.ng Fellowship supports individuals who seek to inform, provoke, and inspire by examining how the past continues to shape the present.
Fellows receive funding, mentorship, and publishing support to develop projects that bring history to life in fresh, meaningful ways.
About the 2026 Theme — “The More Things Change”
This cohort explores the theme The More Things Change, a two-year inquiry into Nigeria’s recurring social, political, and economic patterns.
Whether you’re investigating policy cycles, creating tools that reinterpret economic memory, or telling the untold stories of everyday Nigerians, your project will help illuminate how history repeats itself and evolves across generations.
What the Fellowship Seeks
The program welcomes ambitious, accessible projects that:
- Are rooted in archival materials such as newspapers, magazines, audiovisuals, or other historical sources.
- Help audiences understand recurring patterns and cycles in Nigerian life.
- Can be completed within six months and led by individuals capable of seeing the project through.
- May already be in progress at the time of application.

Fellowship Tracks
1. Storytelling: For creators developing compelling narratives that connect Nigeria’s past to its present. Stories may take any format — written, visual, or digital — as long as they provoke reflection and understanding.
2. Research: For individuals conducting rigorous analysis and producing insights that help audiences see Nigeria’s evolution in new and nuanced ways.
3. Technology: For innovators building digital tools that transform archives into interactive public resources — from timelines and visualizations to immersive experiences.

This fellowship is ideal for you if you are:
- Nigerian, living in the country or abroad.
- Deeply curious about Nigerian history, with a proven ability to produce strong research, storytelling, or technological projects.
- Committed to creating excellent, accessible, and publicly impactful work.
- Comfortable working independently, yet open to collaboration.
- Digitally savvy, with proficiency in online tools such as Notion, Slack, and other collaboration platforms.
Fellowship Benefits
- ₦1 million monthly stipend (January – June 2026).
- At least ₦1 million in project support, disbursed over the duration of the fellowship.

Selection Process
The selection will take place in two stages:
Stage 1 – Preliminary Review: Applications will be screened by the selection committee for eligibility, alignment with Archivi.ng’s mission, project ambition, and feasibility within the six-month timeframe.
Stage 2 – Interviews: Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview, where the team will assess each candidate’s experience, project depth, and commitment to completion.
