The organization runs an extensive research program—recognized as “world class” by the UK government’s Department for International Development (DFID)—which provides deep insights into audience behavior. These insights help ensure that BBC Media Action’s projects effectively engage communities and drive meaningful change.
To share knowledge and improve development communication globally, the organization also publishes policy papers, research reports, and briefings for practitioners and policymakers.

BBC Media Action is seeking creative and highly skilled freelance video editors to support the production of visual content that promotes the work of the BBC’s international charity.
Selected freelancers will work on commissioned projects across the global organization, producing short to medium-length films for multiple platforms and audiences.
Successful candidates will be invited to join the freelance talent pool for up to three years.
This role corresponds to Content Producer (Band C) in the BBC Career Path Framework.
BBC Media Action offers hybrid/agile or fully remote working, and applications are welcome from individuals located in countries where the organization currently has a registered office.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce distinctive film content for various digital and broadcast platforms using specialist production skills.
- Ensure content reflects and represents diverse audiences.
- Stay updated on emerging industry trends and technologies.
- Collaborate effectively with teams across BBC Media Action and the wider BBC network.
- Manage budgets and production resources within agreed parameters.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, contributors, and creative talent.
- Provide constructive feedback to improve production quality.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency in content production processes.
- Work within BBC compliance policies and editorial guidelines, escalating issues when necessary.
- Support the creation of short and medium-length films for digital, online, broadcast channels, and key events.
- Ensure compliance with BBC Legal and Health & Safety policies.

Consultant Requirements
All BBC Media Action consultants must:
- Understand and comply with BBC Media Action’s Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.
- Report safeguarding concerns immediately through the whistleblowing policy.
- Demonstrate strong commitment to BBC editorial values, including accuracy and impartiality.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience editing videos using Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere.
- Knowledge of BBC editorial guidelines and compliance policies, or the ability to quickly learn them.
- Strong understanding of BBC values of accuracy, fairness, and impartiality.
- Passion for international development and media development.
- Experience using modern production techniques and technologies for multi-platform content creation.
- Background working in a content production environment.
- Ability to develop creative and innovative storytelling ideas.
- Experience managing projects from concept to final production.
- Good understanding of target audiences and their content expectations.
- Strong planning, organization, and deadline management skills.
- Ability to work accurately under tight deadlines and changing priorities.
- Sound editorial judgment and ability to escalate issues when necessary.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
