The European Union (EU) Traineeship Programme 2025 offers an exciting opportunity for passionate young graduates and students to gain firsthand experience in international diplomacy and policymaking.
Through this paid traineeship, participants will work within EU offices across Europe and Africa, including the EU Delegation to the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This programme allows selected candidates to develop valuable skills, gain policy insight, and experience life within one of the world’s leading international institutions.
In addition to professional exposure, trainees will receive a monthly living stipend of €700 to help cover living expenses throughout the duration of the traineeship.

About the European Union Traineeship 2025
Are you a young graduate interested in international relations, global diplomacy, and EU–Africa cooperation?
This traineeship gives you the chance to work closely with EU officials, policymakers, and communication experts while learning how the European Union represents its interests, values, and development goals in partnership with the African Union (AU).
Trainees will be placed in specific departments such as:
1. Political, Press, and Information (PPI) Section
This unit focuses on analyzing political developments, engaging with the media, and promoting public diplomacy between the EU and AU institutions.
You’ll assist with communication campaigns, press releases, research, and report drafting related to EU–AU cooperation.
2. Green and Digital Economy Section
This section manages EU-funded projects and programs across sectors including:
- Agriculture and food systems
- Climate action and renewable energy
- Energy efficiency and circular economy
- Innovation and digitalization
- Youth employment, MSME support, and investment promotion
This placement provides real-world exposure to the EU’s sustainable development and economic transformation agenda across Africa.
Eligibility Requirements for European Union Traineeship 2025
To qualify for this traineeship, applicants must:
- Currently reside in Ethiopia
- Hold a Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Law, or other relevant Social Sciences
- Have no more than one year of professional work experience
- Demonstrate fluency in English (knowledge of French is an added advantage)
- Possess excellent analytical, communication, and drafting skills
- Show a strong interest in African Union politics, governance, and development
- Be proactive, reliable, and eager to learn in a multicultural environment
