The fifth season of the FMN Prize for Innovation (FMN PFI 5.0) is now open for applications. This year’s edition focuses on Innovative Practices in Cassava Production and Processing, aimed at improving efficiency, sustainability, value addition, and overall competitiveness within Nigeria’s cassava value chain.

About the Prize

The Prize for Innovation is an initiative of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc (FMN), designed to drive transformative solutions across Nigeria’s food and agro-allied sector.

The competition features two distinct categories to encourage participation from both enterprise-driven innovators and academic researchers.

Categories & Eligibility

1. SME Category

Open to:

  • Registered Nigerian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
  • Businesses operating within the food and agro-allied sector
  • Enterprises developing innovative solutions in cassava production, processing, or value addition

Prizes:

  • First Prize: ₦5,000,000
  • Second Prize: ₦3,000,000
  • Third Prize: ₦2,000,000

2. Student Category

Open to:

  • Nigerian undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Students enrolled in recognized tertiary institutions
  • Applicants proposing innovative solutions to challenges in cassava production and processing

Prizes:

  • First Prize: ₦300,000
  • Second Prize: ₦200,000
  • Third Prize: ₦100,000

Focus Area: Innovative Practices in Cassava

Submissions should demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • Improved productivity or yield optimization
  • Efficient processing technologies
  • Reduction of post-harvest losses
  • Sustainable and climate-smart practices
  • Market expansion or value-chain enhancement
  • Technological integration (e.g., automation, digitization, biotechnology, etc.)

Entries will be evaluated based on innovation, feasibility, scalability, sustainability, and overall impact within Nigeria’s cassava ecosystem.
