The Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) is designed to produce officers who will contribute to the operational efficiency of the Nigerian Army through professionalism, discipline, and dedication.

The application is open to both civilians and serving military personnel who meet the stipulated qualifications.

Upon successful completion of training and commissioning, SSCC officers will serve exclusively in the Combat Arms (Infantry and Armour Corps) and Combat Support Arms (Artillery, Engineers, Signals, and Intelligence Corps) of the Nigerian Army.

Entry Requirements

All interested applicants must meet the following conditions:

  1. Citizenship: Must be a Nigerian citizen by birth, as defined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended).
  2. Age: Must be between 23 and 27 years by 9 January 2026.
  3. Fitness: Must be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
  4. Character:
    • Civilian applicants must be attested to by at least two reputable referees, such as a Local Government Chairman/Secretary, a senior military officer (not below Lieutenant Colonel or equivalent), or an Assistant Commissioner of Police.
    • Referees must be from the applicant’s state of origin, and their passport photographs should be attached to the letter of attestation.
  5. Education:
    • Must possess a minimum of Second Class Lower (Bachelor’s Degree) or Lower Credit (HND) in the Arts, Sciences, or Humanities from an accredited institution.
    • Only academic credentials obtained from 2017 to date will be considered.
  6. NYSC: Must have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program or possess a valid certificate of exemption.
  7. Height: Minimum height requirement is 1.68m for males and 1.65m for females.
  8. Conduct: Must not have been convicted by any court of law or dismissed from any military or paramilitary institution.
  9. Identification: Must possess valid birth certificate, certificate of state of origin, and provide parent/guardian contact details and Next of Kin information.
  10. Military Personnel:
    • Must present valid military identification, a recommendation from their Commanding Officer/Commander, and proof of at least five years of service.
    • Must declare their service status during the application process as required by the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service.
  11. General Conduct: Applicants must not have tattoos, body inscriptions, or be members of any cult, secret society, or fraternity.

Conditions of Service

  • Duration: The SSCC is a 15-year commission, comprising 10 years of active service (initial bonding period), renewable for an additional 5 years.
  • Rank: Successful officer cadets will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants, with seniority dating from the commencement of cadet training.
  • Conversion: Officers may be considered for conversion to Regular Combatant Commission (RCC) based on merit, vacancy, and operational needs.
  • Training Terms: All officer cadets must sign an official acceptance of the SSCC terms and conditions before commissioning.
  • Service Reckoning:
    • For civilians, the service period begins from the date of cadet training commencement.
    • For military personnel, reckoning starts from the date of enlistment.
