The Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2025 edition of its Entrepreneurship Training Programme (DBNETP) – the flagship initiative designed to build the capacity of Nigerian Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Now in its 7th cycle, this programme continues to support business resilience and growth across Nigeria through both digital and physical learning channels.

So far, DBN has successfully trained over 4,000 entrepreneurs across various sectors, leveraging its strategic partnerships and the robust DBN Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver quality business education.

Programme Objectives

The DBNETP aims to:

  • Equip MSMEs with the skills and competencies needed to design, defend, and implement sound business proposals.
  • Enhance MSMEs’ readiness and capacity to access credit and external funding opportunities.
  • Strengthen MSMEs’ ability to utilize funds efficiently, expand trade and investment capacity, and access both local and international markets.

Target Audience

The programme is open to all Nigerian MSMEs across any sector who are committed to gaining practical business knowledge and scaling their ventures successfully within the Nigerian business landscape.

Training Format

The DBNETP follows a blended learning model, combining self-paced virtual learning with intensive in-person training and a pitch competition.

Virtual Training

  • Delivered via the BizAid App on the DBN Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Features 9 comprehensive modules covering core business principles.
  • Self-paced and accessible from anywhere.

Onsite Training

  • A 5-day intensive, practical workshop tailored to the specific needs of shortlisted participants.
  • Held in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.
  • Only 300 businesses will be selected for this phase.

Pitching Session

  • Participants will present their business value propositions.
  • Top-performing businesses will receive grant funding ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦1,000,000 to support their growth plans.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the onsite training and potential grant funding, applicants must:

  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Be a Nigerian citizen or legal resident.
  • Own a for-profit business based in Nigeria (from any sector).
  • Be able to commit fully to the training schedule if selected.

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated based on:

  • Bankability – Readiness to access credit or financing.
  • Feasibility and Sustainability – Viability of the business model.
  • Scalability – Growth potential and ability to create jobs.

Training Programme Workflow

  1. Register on the DBN LMS via the BizAid application.
  2. Complete at least 4 mandatory courses and attain an average score of 80% on all quizzes.
    • Mandatory Courses:
      a. Accounting & Bookkeeping
      b. Sustainability for MSMEs
      c. Marketing and Sales Techniques
      d. Credit Management / Access to Finance
  3. Businesses meeting the course completion criteria will receive a link to apply for the in-person training.
  4. A confirmation email will be sent within 24 hours after application submission.
  5. Applications will be screened and shortlisted based on eligibility and selection criteria.
  6. Successful applicants will be contacted via email and phone.
  7. Training will begin on scheduled dates across Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt.
