The Coimbra Group Short Stay Scholarship is specifically created to enable young academic staff and researchers from Sub-Saharan African universities to undertake a short-term research stay at a European Coimbra Group member university.

Coimbra Group Short Stay Scholarship Details:

Since 2008, Coimbra Group Universities have been offering young researchers from universities in Sub-Saharan Africa the opportunity to spend a short period (generally 1 to 3 months) at a Coimbra Group University to carry out part of the research they are engaged in at their home institution.

The visits are expected to be carried out during the 2025/2026 academic year (e.g., between September 2025 and July 2026). The specific dates and structure of the visit will be agreed upon with the host tutor/supervisor.

The scholarship supports research at the doctoral, postdoctoral, or equivalent level. It is not a degree-conferring scholarship, but rather a research mobility grant.

Coimbra Group Short Stay Scholarship Requirements (2025 Edition):

To be eligible for the Fully Funded Coimbra Group Short Stay Scholarship Program, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

Age: Be born on or after 1 January 1980.
Nationality and Residence: Be nationals of and current residents in a country in Sub-Saharan Africa. (Note: North African countries – Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia – are excluded from this specific call).
Employment Status: Be current staff members of a university or an equivalent higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Academic Status: Be preferably of doctoral/postdoctoral or equivalent status.

Coimbra Group Short Stay Scholarship Rewards:

A monthly grant/stipend (ranging from approximately €600 to €2,000 per month) to cover accommodation and living expenses.
