Applications are now open for the Initiative for Transitional Justice in Africa (ITJA) Communications Fellowship 2026.

The Initiative for Transitional Justice in Africa (ITJA) is a three-year joint project of the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) aimed at supporting AU Member States to domestically integrate and implement the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP).

The project is implemented by a consortium of three organizations led by the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ), in collaboration with the African Transitional Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF) and the Center for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR).

About the Fellowship

The consortium is seeking a Communications Fellow to work closely with the program and communications teams to support the dissemination of ITJA’s work, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and enhance the visibility of the project across Africa and beyond.

This fellowship is designed to strengthen and amplify African expertise and is open exclusively to African nationals.

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Start Date: Immediate upon selection
  • Stipend: Monthly stipend provided

Key Responsibilities

The Communications Fellow will be expected to:

  • Draft content for ICTJ social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, X) in line with donor guidelines
  • Provide communications support before, during, and after events (invitations, promotional materials, live updates, photography, press releases)
  • Track and analyze social media performance metrics
  • Adapt long-form publications into accessible short-form content
  • Design infographics and visual materials highlighting project impact
  • Support proofreading and formatting of publications
  • Write short articles and program spotlights for the website
  • Provide general communications support as needed

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage)
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience using design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Demonstrated interest in transitional justice, human rights, or NGO work
  • Experience producing communications content for development or governance projects
  • Strong proficiency in English (knowledge of French, Portuguese, or Arabic is an advantage)
