About the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship
The MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship is a comprehensive “full-ride” scholarship sponsored by the Government of Japan. Applicants must be recommended by Ritsumeikan University to MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, also called Monbukagakusho in Japanese) to be considered.
MEXT Scholars are high-achieving students expected to act as bridges between Japan and their home countries, contributing positively to society.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the 2026 MEXT Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan (Japanese nationals are not eligible; dual nationals renouncing Japanese citizenship may apply).
- Be born on or after April 2, 1991.
- Be in good physical and mental health.
- Be willing to obtain a student visa and travel to Japan for study.
- Be able to arrive in Japan in mid-September 2026 as designated by Ritsumeikan University.
- Have a CGPA of 2.30/3.00 or higher for the current or most recently completed degree program (calculated by MEXT formula).
- For English-medium programs: CEFR B2 level proficiency in English or have studied in English at your most recent/current degree program.
