The Federal Government/REA NextGen Programme for Nigerian Youths has been launched as a strategic initiative aimed at securing the future of the renewable energy industry while contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Federal Government/REA NextGen Programme for Nigerian Youths is designed to provide selected participants with technical and leadership skills specifically tailored to the renewable energy sector.

Renewable energy developers are being urged by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to enhance their corporate governance structures as part of the Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESOCs) framework.

The primary objective of the initiative is to nurture a new generation of skilled professionals within Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.

This effort is part of a broader vision to address the skills gap in the industry and empower young leaders who can drive the growth of clean energy solutions.

About the Federal Government/REA NextGen Programme for Nigerian Youths

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), in collaboration with the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) and the Ecological Innovation Empowerment Initiative (EIEI), has introduced the NEXT GEN RESCO Programme. This initiative seeks to bridge the skills gap in the renewable energy sector by equipping young professionals with the necessary expertise to lead in the rapidly expanding clean energy landscape in Nigeria.

Applications for the Federal Government/REA NextGen Programme for Nigerian Youths are now open. Over the course of 12 months, 60 successful applicants will have the opportunity to gain in-depth industry knowledge, engage with experts, and collaborate with key stakeholders in the energy sector.

In the past eight months, the REA has played a pivotal role in transforming Nigeria’s clean energy ecosystem. This legislative framework has facilitated strategic engagements between private sector entities, sub-national governments, development organizations, and investors.

The NEXT GEN RESCO Programme is a direct response to the anticipated growth in the clean energy sector, ensuring that young professionals are adequately prepared to meet the sector’s demands.

Eligibility Criteria for the Federal Government/REA NextGen Programme for Nigerian Youths

To ensure inclusivity and equal opportunities, the program has established clear eligibility criteria. Applications are open to:

  • Graduates with a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.5.
  • Individuals with a maximum of two years of post-graduate experience.
  • Candidates possessing strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Female applicants, who are highly encouraged to apply as part of the program’s commitment to gender inclusion.
  • Candidates currently completing their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abuja.
