About the MAMII State Focal Point Role

Maternal mortality remains a pressing public health issue in Nigeria, with many women losing their lives due to preventable complications during pregnancy and childbirth.

In response, the Maternal Mortality Reduction Initiative (MAMII) has been launched to enhance maternal health outcomes by strengthening health systems, promoting community engagement, and improving access to quality maternal care.

The MAMII program is implemented in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp), National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), and National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS).

The State Focal Person will play a pivotal role in coordinating, supervising, and monitoring MAMII activities at the state level, ensuring that program implementation aligns with national health policies and standards.

Key Objectives of the Role

  • Provide strategic coordination and management support for MAMII implementation at the state level.
  • Work closely with state MAMII Task Teams and Desk Officers to facilitate program delivery.
  • Lead data collection and reporting to track intervention progress and outcomes.
  • Document challenges, learnings, and success stories to support continuous improvement and policy advocacy.

Technical Responsibilities – Scope of Work

Program Implementation & Coordination

  • Collaborate with state MAMII Technical Working Groups (TWGs) and task teams to plan and execute interventions across priority Local Government Areas (LGAs).
  • Provide technical support to ensure program delivery meets national standards and quality benchmarks.

Supervision & Monitoring

  • Conduct regular site visits to healthcare facilities and community locations.
  • Monitor adherence to maternal health protocols, service delivery standards, and proper commodities management.
  • Compile detailed reports highlighting progress, challenges, and actionable recommendations.

Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

  • Capture and share success stories, case studies, and lessons learned in partnership with the communications team.
  • Participate in internal Solina problem-solving sessions to co-develop innovative solutions to implementation challenges.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Community Development, or a relevant discipline.
  • At least 3–5 years of professional experience in maternal health, community health, or program supervision.
  • Proven ability in monitoring and evaluation of health programs, community mobilization, and managing referral systems.
  • Strong understanding of community resource groups, health insurance frameworks, and emergency transport services.
  • Demonstrated leadership, coordination, and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with added proficiency in photography and reporting.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and maintain a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Familiarity with the local cultural context and state-specific health systems is highly desirable.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of local languages (Hausa and Yoruba) is essential based on the deployment state.
