Call for Applications: DSMB Training on Safety Monitoring in Clinical Trials (Africa CDC) 2026
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is an autonomous institution of the African Union that supports Member States in planning, preparing for, and responding to health threats and disease outbreaks across the continent. Africa CDC’s work is guided by the principles of credibility, ownership, delegated authority, timely dissemination of information, transparency, accountability, and value addition.
Within Africa CDC, the Science and Innovation Division is responsible for promoting effective safety monitoring in clinical trials to uphold ethical research standards and protect participant well-being.
Adverse events may occur during the administration of investigational products, making strong oversight essential for risk assessment and timely interventions. The Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) plays a critical role in reviewing clinical trial safety data, safeguarding participants, and ensuring the integrity of study results.
To strengthen DSMB expertise across Africa, Africa CDC—in collaboration with the Safety Platform for Emergency Vaccines (SPEAC)—is offering a structured training course in data safety monitoring.
