About the AU AIP Youth Fellowship and Mentorship:
This program is all about empowering Africa’s next generation of water leaders. It provides young people with the opportunity to work on projects that promote water security, industrial development, and climate resilience. Fellows will be mentored by experts from various fields and gain hands-on experience working in diverse, international environments.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the fellowship, you need to meet the following criteria:
- A strong motivation to support the AU AIP Mind the Gap – Invest in Water campaign and a willingness to learn from mentors and peers.
- Must be a recent graduate (within the last 3–5 years) with a Master’s degree in fields related to water management, climate change, sustainable development, or similar areas. Having a PhD is an advantage.
- Postgraduate students (Master’s or PhD) who are close to graduating (within 6 months) are also encouraged to apply. A reference letter from your academic supervisor may be required.
- Solid understanding of key topics like gender, water security, environmental management, and climate change.
- Proficiency in English. Knowledge of additional AU languages (e.g., French or Portuguese) is a plus.
- Applicants must be citizens or residents of an AU Member State, with priority given to nationals/residents of countries like Benin, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, and more.
Benefits of the Fellowship:
- Duration: 12 months
- Stipend: Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of €500 to cover incidental costs. No other financial allowances are provided.
- Professional Development: Fellows will be part of AU-led teams and benefit from regional and global networking opportunities. Exceptional fellows may also be introduced to professional partners for career development.
- Certification: At the end of the fellowship, participants will receive a certificate and a recommendation letter from AU and GWP-Africa.
- Future Opportunities: The best-performing fellows may be considered for roles in regional programs or with AIP partners.
