Position: Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State
The Governing Council of Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) announces that the position of Vice-Chancellor will become vacant on 10th February 2026.
In line with the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act of 1993 (as amended), the University hereby invites applications from suitably qualified, distinguished academics with no less than fifteen (15) years of university teaching and administrative experience.
About the University
Established in January 2013, Federal University Gusau commenced academic activities in the 2013/2014 session. It currently runs programmes under the School of Postgraduate Studies, College of Health Sciences, and several faculties including Education, Humanities, Management and Social Sciences, and Sciences.

The Role of the Vice-Chancellor
The Vice-Chancellor serves as the Chief Executive and Chief Academic Officer of the University.
The office holder is responsible for promoting academic excellence in teaching, learning, and research; overseeing students’ admission, welfare, and discipline; and managing the human, financial, and material resources of the University on behalf of the Governing Council.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a PhD from a recognized institution.
- Be a Professor for at least ten (10) years, with not less than fifteen (15) years of overall academic experience.
- Be a scholar of high repute with a strong record of academic publications, research, and administrative leadership.
- Demonstrate the capacity to provide visionary and inclusive leadership in line with the mission and vision of FUGUS.
- Possess integrity, excellent communication skills, and proven ability to manage university finances responsibly.
- Show evidence of attracting grants and external funding, both locally and internationally.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, team-building, and conflict resolution skills.
- Be capable of fostering partnerships with national and international bodies, agencies, and institutions.
- Exhibit entrepreneurial skills with the ability to mobilize resources and develop innovative initiatives for the University.
- Be ICT-proficient and committed to advancing digital transformation in the University.
- Be of sound physical and mental health.
- Be not more than 55 years old by 10th February 2026.
Tenure and Conditions of Service
The Vice-Chancellor shall serve a single, non-renewable term of five (5) years. Salary and benefits shall be in line with Federal Government provisions for Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities in Nigeria.
Additional Note
Applicants must provide evidence of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate where applicable.
