FG Releases Full List of 774 National Health Fellows for Cohort 2
The Federal Government has released the full list of 774 National Health Fellows selected from across the federation, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s health system through the engagement of young professionals.
The announcement was made by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, who explained that the selection process followed a deliberate and inclusive nationwide framework.
According to the Minister, one Fellow was selected from each Local Government Area, reflecting a strategic commitment to identify, develop, and return sons and daughters of the soil to serve their communities of origin.
“Each Fellow was chosen from a specific Local Government Area, a deliberate commitment to identify, nurture, and return sons and daughters of the soil to their communities of origin,” Pate said.
He noted that the approach is designed to draw young and emerging professionals from their local contexts and redeploy them to learn, serve, and contribute to transformation at the grassroots level—where health outcomes are most directly shaped.
Prof. Pate further emphasized that selection into the National Health Fellows Programme is not merely an honour, but a responsibility. Fellows are expected to confront real health system challenges, improve coordination, strengthen operational processes, and support service delivery while cultivating a results-driven mindset.

He added that the programme places Fellows in environments that promote growth through supervision, guidance, and accountability—helping them build confidence, competence, and integrity over time.
The nationwide distribution of Fellows underscores a reform philosophy that excellence exists in every part of the country and that sustainable health reforms are strongest when rooted in local ownership and community trust. By investing in individuals who belong to the communities they serve, the programme aims to strengthen continuity and credibility within local health systems.
“As these Fellows assume their responsibilities, they do so with the understanding that public trust must be earned through service, humility, and results,” Pate said. “On behalf of the leadership of the health sector and the implementing team, I congratulate all Cohort 2 Fellows, their families, and their communities.”
About the Programme
The National Health Fellows Programme was established on the principle that leadership potential exists across Nigeria’s health system, even in areas where opportunities have historically been uneven.
By embedding capable individuals within federal, state, and local health institutions, the programme seeks to unlock this potential through structured learning, service, and mentorship.
The initiative operates nationwide and is designed to strengthen health governance, improve service delivery, and build a pipeline of committed health leaders across Nigeria.
