Geneva Youth Travel Grant 2026 for Young People to Attend Global Chemicals and Waste Conference
Young people from around the world can apply for travel support to attend the First International Conference of the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC IC-1) taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, in November 2026.
The opportunity is coordinated by the Chemicals and Waste Youth Platform (CWYP) and will enable young people to participate in international discussions on chemicals and waste management, environmental policy and sustainable development.
Selected youth delegates will have the opportunity to contribute to negotiations, attend the 4th Global Youth Forum on Chemicals and Waste, engage with country and stakeholder delegations, and contribute to youth-led policy recommendations and initiatives.
The deadline to apply for the Fully-Funded Travel Grant is 29 September 2026 at 17:00 UTC, while applications for Non-Funded Registration Support close on 13 October 2026 at 17:00 UTC.

Who Can Apply?
The opportunity is open to children and young people aged 35 or younger at the time of application who are interested in chemicals and waste management, environmental sustainability, public health, innovation, policy or youth participation in international decision-making.
Applicants must be available to travel to Geneva and participate in the full programme from 13 to 20 November 2026.

The Fully-Funded Travel Grant is available specifically to:
- Young people from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)
- Indigenous youth from any region
A Partially-Funded Travel Grant is available to eligible young people from any country or region, while Non-Funded Registration Support is also available globally.
Previous experience working with the United Nations is not required.
What Does the Fully Funded Grant Cover?
Successful applicants selected for the Fully-Funded Travel Grant will receive travel assistance to participate in the conference.
The support includes:
- Roundtrip international airfare
- Accommodation with breakfast
- Reimbursement for meals
- Transportation reimbursement
- Visa fee reimbursement
Applicants who require a Swiss visa are encouraged to apply as early as possible to allow sufficient time for visa processing and related arrangements.
Partially Funded Travel Support
Young people who are not eligible for the fully funded option, or who choose the partial funding category, may apply for Partially-Funded Travel Grant support.
The partial grant provides:
- Low-cost airfare or train travel within the applicant’s country or region, up to CHF 150 roundtrip
- Accommodation with breakfast
This option is available to eligible young people from any country or region.

Non-Funded Registration Support
Young people who can cover their own travel and accommodation expenses can apply for Non-Funded Registration Support.
Selected applicants will receive support with conference registration and an accreditation letter, while they remain responsible for their travel, accommodation and other expenses in Geneva.
Applicants may also be required to provide information explaining how they intend to finance their participation.

What Will Selected Youth Do in Geneva?
Selected delegates will participate in discussions on the implementation of the Global Framework on Chemicals and have opportunities to actively contribute to the international policy process.
Participants may:
- Deliver spoken and written interventions during negotiations
- Engage with government and stakeholder delegations
- Discuss youth priorities on chemicals and waste management
- Participate in the three-day Global Youth Forum on Chemicals and Waste
- Contribute to collective youth policy recommendations
- Engage in youth-led policy and innovation initiatives
Participants should be prepared for an intensive programme and commit to taking part throughout the conference period.
About the Global Framework on Chemicals
The Global Framework on Chemicals – For a Planet Free of Harm from Chemicals and Waste is an international framework adopted in September 2023.
It provides strategic objectives and targets aimed at improving the management of chemicals and waste and promoting safer practices throughout the lifecycle of chemicals.
The framework brings together governments, civil society, academia, the private sector and other stakeholders to strengthen international cooperation and accelerate action on chemicals and waste management.
The GFC IC-1 will provide an important platform for stakeholders, including young people, to discuss implementation and contribute to future action.
