Nigerian Army SSC 50/2027 | Apply for Short Service Commission as an Army Officer
The programme is open to qualified civilians and serving military personnel. Successful candidates will undergo military training and, upon completion, be commissioned as officers in the Nigerian Army.
AREAS OF COMMISSION
SSC officers may serve in:
- Infantry
- Armour
- Artillery
- Engineers
- Signals
- Intelligence Corps
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
- Be a Nigerian citizen by birth.
- Be 23–28 years old by January 2027.
- Be medically, mentally and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
- Be recommended and attested to by at least two recognised referees who meet the specified requirements.
- Provide a letter of attestation from their former institution.
- Be at least 1.68m tall for males and 1.65m for females.
- Have no criminal conviction.
- Possess a First Degree with at least Second Class Lower Division or HND with at least Lower Credit from an accredited institution.
- Have a valid birth certificate or age declaration.
- Have a valid Certificate of State of Origin.
- Have an NYSC discharge certificate or valid exemption certificate, except where exempted under the stated conditions.
- Have post-secondary academic credentials obtained from 2015 to date.
- Provide valid contact details for parents/guardians and next of kin.
- Have no body inscriptions or tattoos.
- Present original educational certificates from primary to post-secondary level.
- Not belong to any cult, secret society or fraternity.
- Not have been dismissed or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any military or paramilitary training institution.

Serving military personnel must meet additional service requirements, including a minimum of 5 years’ service and the required military recommendations and sponsorship documentation.
COMMISSION AFTER TRAINING
Officer cadets who successfully complete the required military training will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants.
SSC officers may have the opportunity to convert to a Regular Combatant Commission, subject to available vacancies and applicable criteria. Conversion is not automatic.

- Complete the application form.
- Upload the required documents, including:
- Passport photograph
- Educational certificates
- Professional body membership certificate, where applicable
- Certificate of State of Origin
- Birth certificate or age declaration
- NIN/BVN
PRINTING OF APPLICATION FORM
After completing the application, applicants must print their online-generated photo-slip.
The required pages must be signed by the appropriate authorities, including the Registrar of a Court of Law and an eligible Local Government Chairman/Secretary or qualifying military officer from the applicant’s state of origin.
Successful applicants will be required to present their printed application documents at the Selection Board interview.
