Role Overview

Surge Africa is seeking a Program Assistant to provide core programmatic and operational support across the organization.

In addition to program support, the role includes administrative responsibilities such as assisting with recruitment processes, expense tracking, and selected human resources functions.

This is a fully remote position.

  • Start Date: Immediate
  • Employment Type: Permanent
  • Location: Fully Remote (Nigeria)

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing and coordinating programs and activities in line with the organization’s mission and goals
  • Support team members in preparing, formatting, and editing documents, including slide decks and PowerPoint presentations
  • Continuously review and contribute to improvements in program evaluation, delivery, and methodologies
  • Develop and maintain efficient filing and documentation systems, including tracking applications and responses to proposals
  • Manage office calendars and send reminders for upcoming meetings and appointments
  • Coordinate translation, proofreading, and editing of documents when required
  • Organize regular team meetings, conference calls, and virtual meetings, including preparing and sharing relevant materials
  • Attend staff meetings and accurately take and distribute meeting minutes as required
  • Assist with budget management for routine and special events
  • Make travel and venue reservations for off-site meetings and organizational events
  • Relay internal communications and emails to staff members
  • Support the onboarding and orientation of new employees by providing required documents and materials
  • Assist with payroll administration
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by team members

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in program support, administration, or human resources
  • Strong ability to plan and execute both in-person and virtual engagements
  • Proficiency in digital tools, software, and virtual workspaces
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively
  • Polite, clear, and professional communication style
  • Good understanding of climate change issues and the broader climate landscape
