Scholarship Details
The Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarship is offered annually to African nationals and residents to pursue taught Master’s degree programs at SOAS, University of London.
For 2026, two scholarships will be awarded to deserving African students based on academic merit. Recipients must enroll in the 2026/27 academic year, as the scholarship cannot be deferred.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a resident of a low-income or lower-middle-income country (as defined by the World Bank), preferably from a low-income household
- Hold an undergraduate degree with first-class honors
- New scholarship applicants must apply to SOAS before the scholarship deadline; an offer of admission is not required at the time of application, but must be obtained before the scholarship panel meets
- Meet the English language requirements of the SOAS program as soon as possible
- Note: The scholarship does not cover pre-sessional courses
Scholarship Value and Duration
- Total value: £32,500
- Funds are primarily applied to tuition fees. If tuition fees are lower than £32,500, the remainder will be provided as a stipend for living expenses
- Awarded solely on academic merit

Candidate Assessment
Applications are assessed by an Advisory Panel of three academic members. Key evaluation criteria include:
- Academic results and transcripts
- References from previous institutions
- Personal statement and other relevant supporting information
