Yale Young African Scholars Program in USA 2025
The Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) Program is a transformative academic and leadership initiative designed to nurture outstanding African high school students aspiring to pursue higher education and make a positive impact in their communities.
This fully-funded program covers all expenses, including tuition, meals, housing, and academic materials, ensuring equal access to students from diverse financial backgrounds.
What YYAS Offers:
YYAS is more than just an academic program. It’s an immersive experience where participants develop their academic abilities, gain insights into university admissions, explore career options, and join a vibrant network of young African leaders.
After completing the program, students are paired with mentors to guide them through the university application process, making their transition to higher education smoother and more informed.

- Workshop Dates:
- Online College Prep (6 days): July 17–22, 2025
- Residential Leadership Summit in Kenya (9 days): August 9–17, 2025

Who Can Apply:
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be aged 14–18 years old (born between August 18, 2006, and July 17, 2011)
- Be citizens or permanent residents of an African country or refugees residing in Africa
- Currently attend school in Africa and be in the 10th or 11th grade (or equivalent)
- Be proficient in English to participate in the rigorous curriculum

Application Requirements:
- A list of extracurricular activities
- A 400-word essay and a 200-word response
- Two quick “fast take” responses (280 characters each)
- An official school transcript
- A recommendation form from a teacher or mentor
- Application fee ($70 for Early Action and $85 for Regular Decision)
- Optional: English fluency test scores (TOEFL/Duolingo) and need-based financial aid
The deadline to apply is January 20, 2025, and all applicants must submit their completed applications to be considered for this life-changing opportunity.
