Inclusive Economic Empowerment (IEE) Pathways Programme 2026 | Skills Training and Employment Opportunities for Young People in Northern Nigeria

The Inclusive Economic Empowerment (IEE) Pathways Programme is providing enterprise and employability skills training for young people in Kano, with a focus on equipping participants with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

The programme is being implemented by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) with support from the British Council under its Non-Formal Education programme.

A total of 50 young people in Kano will be trained under the programme.

Programme Structure

The IEE Pathways Programme begins with an 8-week Foundation Phase, designed to provide participants with essential knowledge and skills.

After completing the Foundation Phase, participants will progress into specialised pathways based on their interests, skills, and career goals.

Employment Pathway

Participants interested in employment will undertake an 8-week Employment Pathway, followed by a:

  • 6-week supervised internship with a partner organisation outside CITAD.

The internship will provide participants with practical workplace experience and an opportunity to apply the skills gained during the training.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a Nigerian youth between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Be a resident of Kano Metropolis or have a place to stay in Kano for the duration of the training.
  • Be available to participate in physical and online training sessions throughout the programme.
  • Have at least a Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent.
  • Be able to communicate in English.
  • For applicants on the Employability Track, be willing to complete a 6-week internship with a host organisation outside CITAD.
  • Be available to participate in a physical screening exercise before final selection.
