The Legislative Mentorship Initiative (LMI) has officially launched its 2026 Fellowship Call for Applications at the LMI Youth Town Hall held in commemoration of International Youth Day.

The 2026 LMI Fellowship Programme is open to young Nigerians passionate about leadership, public service, governance, and legislative development who are ready to deepen their knowledge, build meaningful networks, and contribute to national development.

Who Should Apply?

The fellowship seeks dedicated young Nigerians with a demonstrated commitment to public service and national development.

Selection Criteria

  • Nigerian Citizen: Applicants must be citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
  • Leadership Track Record: Applicants should demonstrate strong leadership and development skills with a credible record of service to their community or society.
  • Communication & Creativity: Applicants should have strong oral and written English skills, as well as creativity and the ability to develop practical and workable solutions.
  • Patriotism & Vision: Applicants should be patriotic, visionary, and passionate about Nigeria’s stability, growth, and development, with an interest in participating in the Nigerian legislature.
  • Commitment: Applicants must be willing to uphold the values of the LMI and fully commit to the fellowship programme.
  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be between 21 and 35 years old.

Nigeria’s Premier Fellowship for Aspiring Legislative and Public Sector Leaders

The LMI Fellowship is a fully residential three-week annual programme designed for passionate Nigerians aged 21–35 who aspire to serve in the legislature and public sector.

Through intensive training, mentorship, and hands-on experience, participants are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to drive meaningful change.

What Will You Learn?

The fellowship focuses on six core pillars designed to develop capable, ethical, and effective public sector leaders.

  • Public Service Values: Understand the importance of selfless and responsive service and the responsibility to perform public duties with honesty, diligence, and patriotism.
  • Nigerian History & Constitution: Explore Nigeria’s history, constitutional development, and parliamentary heritage while applying lessons from the past toward building a better Nigeria.
  • Parliament & Democracy: Learn about the role of parliament in nation-building and understand the legislature’s position as an important pillar of democracy.
  • Legislative Process: Gain practical knowledge of legislative processes, the culture of public service, sustained engagement, and creating meaningful impact for national development.
  • Value-Based Leadership: Develop a disciplined, value-driven leadership mindset focused on effective execution of programmes and projects.
  • Social & Emotional Intelligence: Build the social and emotional intelligence required to serve Nigeria’s diverse multi-cultural, multi-religious, and multi-ethnic population with fairness, justice, and unity.
