Opportunity Alert! Federal Government to Begin Disbursement of Loans to Farmers/Businesses, GEEP
He urged traders’ associations and cooperatives across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas to work closely with GEEP Desk Officers and field enumerators to ensure that the loans are disbursed to the right beneficiaries.
“The success of this programme depends on transparency and proper targeting. We want to reach those who truly need support, not those seeking to exploit the system,” he emphasized.
Baba further assured stakeholders that President Tinubu’s administration remains committed to expanding the scope of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP).
According to him, the pilot phase for farmers would serve as a solid foundation for a nationwide rollout in 2026, covering more communities and diverse sectors of the economy.
He also acknowledged the contributions of past administrations and former ministers in establishing and growing GEEP since its inception in 2016. However, he stressed that ongoing reforms are being introduced to improve delivery mechanisms, strengthen accountability, and eliminate leakages.
Explaining further, Baba noted that GEEP is an integral part of the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), which also includes the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer, and Grants for Vulnerable Groups. “Together, these interventions are designed to reduce poverty, empower households, and improve livelihoods across Nigeria,” he stated.
Beneficiaries and stakeholders shared their perspectives on the programme. One beneficiary, Hauwa Musa, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, noting that the loan had not only improved her livelihood but also enabled her to expand her small business.
Another stakeholder, Mallam Umar Usman, admitted he was yet to benefit from the scheme but expressed optimism about being included in the upcoming GEEP 3.0 phase.
He described the initiative as a lifeline for farmers and business owners who often lack access to credit facilities.
