The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is recruiting for the position of Junior Access to Finance Advisor under the Value Chains for Agriculture, Climate and Employment (VACE) project in Nigeria.
The position is based in Abuja, with a high likelihood of relocation to Abeokuta at a later stage. The successful candidate will support efforts to improve access to finance for farmers, agribusinesses and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), while helping to build partnerships between businesses, investors, financial institutions and other stakeholders.

About the VACE Project
The Value Chains for Agriculture, Climate and Employment (VACE) project is co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The project aims to promote sustainable rural economic development by supporting selected agricultural value chains in Nigeria.
It seeks to increase agricultural production, create employment opportunities and improve the incomes of rural communities while contributing to food security and strengthening resilience to climate and economic challenges.
The project also supports agribusinesses, smallholder farmers and other value-chain actors by improving access to finance, strengthening businesses and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Responsibilities
The Junior Access to Finance Advisor will support activities aimed at improving access to investment and funding for businesses and other actors within the project’s targeted value chains.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the identification and resolution of barriers to accessing finance for farmers, producers and agribusinesses.
- Organising discussions and roundtables with relevant government agencies and stakeholders on access to agricultural finance.
- Identifying and developing partnerships with public and private institutions to improve capital flows to smallholder farmers and agribusinesses.
- Supporting financial institutions in developing or adapting suitable financial products and instruments.
- Assessing the financial needs of project beneficiaries and connecting them with suitable financing and investment opportunities.
- Supporting investor engagement and due diligence processes for suitable agribusinesses.
- Organising deal rooms, matchmaking events and other activities that connect investors with potential investees.
- Assisting MSMEs in developing investment-ready financing and investment proposals.
- Supporting the establishment and strengthening of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) across the project’s value chains and states.
- Preparing reports and documentation related to access to finance and investment activities.
- Participating in knowledge-sharing activities within the agriculture cluster and other GIZ programmes.
- Supporting the development of work plans, budgets and reports.
- Assisting with communication and knowledge-management activities.
- Performing other duties related to the position as required.
Requirements
Educational Qualification
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Investment, Finance, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship Development or a related field from a recognised institution.

Experience
- Maximum of 3 years of professional experience in the financial sector and/or supporting smallholder farmers and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to access finance or investment.
- Experience in investment facilitation and matchmaking will be an added advantage.
- Familiarity with investment facilitation and matchmaking processes.
- Experience supporting or advising MSMEs in raising equity investment or debt financing.
- Experience assessing the financial needs of businesses and connecting them with appropriate sources of funding.
- Good understanding of impact investing, philanthropy, innovative finance, venture capital, private equity, government institutions and the MSME sector in Nigeria.
Other Skills and Competencies
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Additional Nigerian language skills will be an advantage.
- Strong teamwork and networking abilities.
- Good understanding and commitment to gender equality and inclusion.
